Looking for some new music to listen to while writing? I’ve got some recommendations!

Ever wish you were writing in a remote cabin in a forest while it’s raining, but one that somehow also has the same white noise and feel of a coffee shop? Try out these background tracks while writing in a coffee shop (in the after-times, obviously).

It could be a gif, but if so, it’s a really long one. The trees move, there are no cars, and it’s just so peaceful to watch or have on a second monitor while you map out your next plot points–assuming this kind of background noise doesn’t make you sleepy. I live in San Diego and it rarely ever rains here, so I feel creatively invigorated when listening to rain sounds. Heck, I’ve got the 4 hour and 10 hour iTunes version of this video (back when I used iTunes)!

Here’s another rain video I like because it has a bit of the fireplace sound in addition to rain and some thunder–also, it’s a charming picture and they have a whole litany of these kinds of videos to try out:

If you want something a little more exciting than background music, I highly recommend orchestral covers of pop music, but especially anything by Lindsey Stirling. I made a list of the music I used to study to and now use for writing. No words (for most of them) and fast beats and dubstep with beautiful violin sounds.

Hope this helps, and happy writing! If you ever need inspiration for fantasy names for your characters, check out my Fantasy Character Name Bank!
